Broken Beauty explores reverence for the flawed and imperfect — be it simply pointing to and honoring, or an act of rescue, restoration, and mending whole.

These figure and portrait paintings marry the fluid, luminous qualities of watercolor with the dynamic gestures of the human figure. Working with watercolor’s spontaneity and ability to reflect light, these artists play with value and color to create uniquely expressive reflections of the human form.

In years past, Concord Art Association sponsored several competitions, oftentimes based on a theme. About the time of Frances Roddy’s death, our Art Committee, chaired by George Nick, felt that to ensure participation by both emerging and professional artists that we needed to award more substantial prizes.
